Traumatic Brain Injuries & Criminalization of Survivors
Join us via Zoom for a conference-style workshop that examines how incarcerated individuals may have experienced DV/IPV, prevalence of brain injuries, justice system responses, screening, accommodation strategies, re-entry challenges, and innovative programs.
The conference-workshop series is designed to enhance skills, increase knowledge, and build meaningful connections within the brain injury community. Participating organizations benefit from learning alongside other speakers, some of whom may not realize they are already working with individuals impacted by brain injury. This collaborative approach creates valuable networking opportunities and expands understanding across disciplines. Each session typically features 4-6 speakers presenting for ~25-40 minutes each, followed by a brief Q&A facilitated through Zoom chat.
The conference-workshop series is sponsored by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, Home and Community Living Administration and the TBI Council of Washington.

About the Brain Injury Workshop Series
The Center on Brain Injury Research and Training (CBIRT)’s conference-workshop series explores critical themes through a brain injury lens, with topics selected based on emerging needs within the professional workforce. We follow a comprehensive approach that bridges research to practice to lived experience: What does the research tell us? How is that knowledge reflected in real-world practice? What initiatives exist to support impacted individuals? We are committed to bringing a range of voices to these important discussions and raising awareness of issues and programs within Washington State and beyond, helping attendees learn about available resources and connect the communities they serve with essential support services. The conference-workshop series is designed to enhance skills, increase knowledge, and build meaningful connections within the brain injury community.
